Stock Indices Trading Times - Market Opening and Closing Time
The various stock indices start to trade when their respective stock markets are open and continue to trade until these markets close on Friday. During the weekday, traders can still open and close position on these indices instruments even after the markets the indices represent close for the night. For Example the UK FTSE 100 will be open for opening and closing trades from Monday to Friday, even during the after hours when the London Stock Exchange is closed for the night.

Just like forex the stock market indices are available for trading 24 hours throughout the 5 trading days, the only difference is that indices open for trading on Monday and not on Sunday like Forex - Otherwise from Monday open a trader can trade these instruments throughout the week any time until the Friday market closing time.
Best Time to Trade Stock Indices
For stock market indices the best time to trade when there is a lot of trading opportunities is during the European Stock Market Opening Hours and the USA Stock Markets Opening Hours.
This is between 0700 and 2200 GMT Time. This is when the market moves the most points giving traders the best time to catch a profitable market move to trade.
