Stock Index Trading Times - Market Opening and Closing Time

The different indices start trading when their stock markets open and keep trading until those markets close on Friday. During the week, traders can still open and close positions on these indices, even after the markets they represent close for the night. For example, the UK FTSE 100 is open for trading from Monday to Friday, even after the London Stock Exchange closes for the night.

The following time table shows the time when the various indices are open for trading.

Best Time to Trade Index

For stock market indexes, your best shot at finding trading opportunities is during the opening hours of the European and US stock markets.

This is between 0700 and 2200 GMT Time. During this time, the market moves the most, giving traders the best opportunity to profit from a market move.
