Periodicity on Charts Menu in MT4
MT4 Chart Time Frames; Multiple Time Frame Indicator
Periodicity is commonly referred to as Time Frames by many traders. On the MT4 software.
The button key below is used to choose the periodicity or chart timeframe to trade with. This button can be accessed on the MT4 platform as shown below.
MT4 Chart Time Frames
On the MetaTrader 4 platform these chart timeframes are:
- 1 Minute Chart Timeframe - M1
- 5 Minute Time Frame - M5
- 15 Minutes Time Frame - M15
- 30 Minute Time Frame - M30
- 1 Hour Time Frame - H1
- 4 Hours Time Frame - H4
- Daily Chart Time Frame - D1
- Weekly Chart Time Frame - W1
- Monthly Chart Time Frame - MN
How to Know Which Time Frame You are Using
A common question especially if you're new to xauusd would be how to identify which chart timeframe you are using on your MT4 software:
There are various techniques of knowing which MetaTrader 4 chart timeframe you're using as Displayed below:
Use the above Menu as Shown above
In the above example once you choose the periodicity button under the charts menu, then the list of xauusd MT4 chart timeframes is shown and the chart timeframe that's currently selected, the one that you are using will be highlighted with a different color, on our above example this is the 1 Hour(H1) chart timeframe, whose Icon on the left is highlighted in light blue.
MetaTrader 4 Multiple Timeframes On One Chart - Multiple Timeframe In One Chart
This MetaTrader 4 periodicity tool bar is by default located at the top of the MT4 platform and has all the chart timeframes highlighted as displayed below. The chart timeframe that one is using will be marked differently from the other chart timeframes, the selected chart timeframe will be "indented" as shown below:

At the top-left corner of MetaTrader 4 chart, the MetaTrader 4 chart timeframe is displayed as illustrated below:

When you open a chart you can then use above three methods to know which periodicity - chart time frame you're trading with.
You also can use the tabs, if you are trading many charts. To view this tab, Go to "View Menu" then Choose "Charts Bar". The following MT4 bar will appear that you can use to navigate & it demonstrates the instrument as well as the timeframe.
