MetaTrader 4 & MetaTrader 5 platforms are electronic stock index trading platforms used by traders to place stock index trades online. However, MT4 platform is primarily used for retail stock index trading while MT5 is used as a multi asset stock index trading software for trading stocks, stock indices, CFDs, commodities, equities in addition to stock index instruments.

MT4 platform provides traders with 9 stock index chart timeframes while MT5 platform provides traders with 21 stock index chart timeframes.

MT4 platform provides traders with 30 in built stock index technical indicators while MT5 platform provides traders with 38 in built stock index technical indicators.

MT4 platform provides traders with 31 stock index charts tools while MT5 platform provides traders with 44 stock index chart tools - with additional tools such as Elliott wave drawing stock index tools.

MT4 platform does not provide a stock index economic calendar to stock index traders while MT5 platform provides traders with an economic calendar which alerts stock index traders when stock index news reports are about to be released.
