RSI is the most popular indicator and it's a momentum oscillator & a trend following indicator. RSI compares a trading currency magnitude of the recent price gains against the magnitude of recent losses price losses and plots this data on a scale of values which ranges between 0-100.
Relative Strength Index measures the momentum of a currency pair; values above 50 signify bullish momentum while values below 50 center-line signify bearish momentum.

- Horizontal dashed lines are drawn on the RSI indicator to identify overbought and oversold levels which are 70/30 levels respectively.
How to Generate Buy & Sell Signals
There are several methods used to trade and analyze RSI indicator, these are:
50 Level Crossover Signals
- Buy signal - a trading buy signal gets generated when the RSI indicator crosses above 50 center line mark and a trading buy signal gets generated.
- Sell Signal - a trading sell signal gets generated when the RSI indicator crosses below 50 center line mark and a trading sell signal gets generated.

RSI indicator is a leading indicator and it can be used to predict Support & Resistance Level Price Breakouts before price breaks its support level or resistance level. RSI indicator uses the RSI swing failure signal to predict when price is about to break the support level or the resistance level.

Overbought/Oversold Levels on Indicator
- Overbought Levels - RSI indicator values above 80
- Oversold Levels - RSI indicator values below 20
These RSI indicator overbought and oversold levels can be used to generate trading signals - when RSI indicator values turns up from below 20 after oversold levels a trading buy signal is generated - when RSI indicator values turns down from above 80 after overbought levels a trading sell signal is generated. These overbought and oversold signals are not suitable for trading because they are prone to a lot of whipsaw signals.
