What is Used Margin? : Used Margin is the amount of money in your account which has been already used up when opening a trading lot, this trading lot is the one that is illustrated and displayed in open position transactions. You can not use this amount of money after registering a position because you have already used it and it isn't available to you to open another trade with.
In other terms, because your broker has opened up a trade position for you using capital you've borrowed, you as a trader must sustain this used margin as a collateral to allow you as a Gold trader to continue using this leverage the broker has issued you.
What is Trading Free Margin? : XAUUSD Trading Free Margin is the amount of money in your account which you as a trader can use to open new positions. Gold Trading Free Margin is the amount of money in your account that hasn't yet been leveraged because you have not yet opened a trades with this money - this Trading Free Margin is also very important for you because it facilitates you to continue holding your open positions as is explained below.

The margin examples in MT4 below, the set leverage option is 100:1, the margin which is 1% is $2683.07 - therefore the total sum controlled by the trader is: $268,307 - this is because with this leverage a trader has used little of their own money & borrowed the rest from their broker, with this leverage set at 100:1, a xauusd trader is using 1 % of their trading capital, this 1% is $2683.07 - if 1% is $2683.07 dollars then 100% is $268,307 dollars
