Standard Gold Trade Account

Gold is bought and sold in amounts called contracts. A normal contract for gold has 100 units. Since xauusd is priced per ounce, those 100 units mean 100 ounces of gold. These 100 ounces make up one standard gold contract.

Therefore, should the value of one ounce of gold increase by $1, a trader engaging with one standard lot of gold will secure a $100 profit, because one gold contract is equivalent to one hundred ounces.

For this account, if a trader wants to trade xauusd in standard lots, the gold trader needs to have at least $50,000.

Mini XAUUSD Account

XAUUSD gets traded in units called lots. A mini lot for XAUUSD is 10 units, which means 10 ounces of gold. Since gold prices are quoted per ounce, one mini lot is basically a contract for 10 ounces of gold.

Therefore, if the price of 1 ounce of gold increases by $1, a trader holding 1 mini lot of gold realizes a $10 profit, based on the fact that one xauusd contract represents 10 ounces of gold exposure.

If a trader wants to trade gold using mini contracts/lots on this trading account, they must have at least $10,000 available to trade with.

Micro Gold Trading Account

One micro lot of XAUUSD equals one unit. Gold prices use one ounce as the base. So this unit means one ounce of gold. That forms a single micro XAUUSD contract.

Consequently, if the value of one ounce of gold appreciates by $1, a trader managing one micro lot of gold will realize a $1 gain, as one standard gold contract represents a single physical ounce.

For a trading account in XAUUSD, use micro lots or contracts. A gold trader needs at least $1,000 in capital.

Choosing a XAUUSD Account

Practice Demo Trade Accounts
