When the commodity price moves upward it forms higher highs & higher lows forming an upwards commodity price movement. An upward commodity trend line can then be plotted by connecting these commodity price higher lows.

Once commodity traders draw and identify a commodity trend using commodity trend lines - traders will then open commodities trades in the direction of this commodities trend. This is because once commodity price begin to move in a commodity trend direction either upward or downwards - the commodity price will keep heading in this direction for some time - this is why commodity traders will identify the commodity trend first & use this commodity trend to open trades that are in the direction for the commodities trend.
