What Does it Mean to Go Long a Stocks instrument?

In stocks as trader you will be buying one stocks for another. When you buy a stocks instrument in stocks this is known as going long.

Going long is therefore just another term used to refer to buying of a stocks.

You will use stocks charts to determine when to go long a stocks instrument - you will go long if the stocks prices on the stock charts are heading in an upwards stocks trend direction.

If the stocks price on a stocks chart is going up we buy the stocks instrument, this is also referred to as going long Therefore going long is just another name for buying.
