How Much Does a Standard Lot Cost? - Example Illustration of How Much 1 Lot Costs?

A singular Standard Lot represents the equivalent of 100,000 units of the currency serving as the base for the pair.

If you want to trade 1 standard lot in forex - which is 100,000 units of the base currency - your leverage decides how much you'll need to open the trade.

For Example - Leverage 100:1

With a leverage ratio of 100:1, traders can borrow $100 for every $1 invested in their Standard Account for efficient trading strategies.

So, to trade 1 Standard Lot with 100:1 leverage, dividing 100,000 units of base currency by the leverage of 100:1 is the same as $1,000 dollars.

So, a trader needs $1,000 to start a Standard lot - meaning that 1 Standard lot will cost $1,000 to trade with 100:1 leverage.

Example 2 - Leverage 50:1

Using a 50:1 borrowing arrangement, a person trading can get 50 dollars for each 1 dollar in their Standard Account and then trade.

So, to trade 1 Standard Lot using 50:1 leverage - 100,000 units of base currency divided by leverage 50:1 is equal to $2000 dollars.

So, to trade one Standard lot, you'll need $2,000 because one Standard lot will cost $2,000 when using 50:1 leverage.

Example 3 - Leverage 20:1

Using a 20:1 borrowing arrangement, a person trading can get 20 dollars for each 1 dollar in their Standard Account and then trade.

For instance, to trade with 1 Standard Lot using 20:1 leverage, divide the 100,000 currency units by the 20:1 leverage ratio, resulting in a requirement of $5,000 USD.

So, to trade one Standard lot, you'll need $5,000 because one Standard lot will cost $5,000 when using 20:1 leverage.

Example 4 - Leverage 10:1

With 10:1 leverage, a trader can borrow 10 dollars for each dollar in their Standard Account and then trade with that money.

To trade 1 standard lot with a leverage ratio of 10:1, you divide 100,000 units of base currency by the leverage, resulting in $10,000.

So, a trader will need $10,000 to start a Standard lot - meaning 1 Standard lot will cost $10,000 to trade with 10:1 leverage.
