MetaTrader 4 Forex Chart Time Frames: Periodicity on Charts in MetaTrader 4

Periodicity is commonly referred to as Forex Chart Time Frames by many traders. On the MetaTrader 4 platform.

The button below is used to select the periodicity or forex chart time frame to trade with. This button can be accessed on the MetaTrader 4 platform as shown below.

On the MT4 platform these forex chart time frames are:

  1. 1 Minute Chart Time Frame - M1
  2. 5 Minute Chart Time Frame - M5
  3. 15 Minutes Chart Time Frame - M15
  4. 30 Minutes Chart Time Frame - M30
  5. 1 Hour Chart Time Frame - H1
  6. 4 Hours Chart Time Frame - H4
  7. Daily Chart Time Frame - D1

How to Know Which Forex Trading Chart Time Frame You are Using

A common question especially if you are new to forex trading would be how to identify which forex chart time frame you are using on your MetaTrader 4 platform:

There are various methods of knowing which MT4 chart time frame you are using as Shown below:

In the above forex trading example once you select the periodicity button under the charts menu, then the list of forex MT4 chart time frames is shown and the forex chart time frame that is currently selected, the one that you are using will be highlighted with a different color, on our above example this is the 1 Hour(H1) forex chart time frame, whose Icon on the left is highlighted in light blue.

This MT4 periodicity toolbar is by default located at the top of the MetaTrader 4 platform and has all the forex chart time frames marked as shown below. The forex chart timeframe that a forex trader is using will be marked differently from the other forex chart time frames, the selected forex chart time frame will be "indented" as shown below:

When you open a forex chart you can then use above three methods to know which periodicity - forex chart time frame you are trading with.

You can also use the tabs, if you are trading many forex charts. To view this tab, Go to "View Menu" then Select "Charts Bar". The following MetaTrader 4 bar will appear that you can use to navigate and it indicates the currency pair as well as the forex trading chart timeframe.
