Moving Average Analysis & Moving Average Signals

A indicator that calculates the average value of prices (or any specified data sequence) over a pre determined period of time.

The only significant difference between the various types of MAs is the weight assigned to the most recent data. Simple moving averages MAs apply equal weight to the market prices. Exponential & weighted averages assign more weight to the recent prices.

Explanation

The most popular method of interpreting the Moving Average is to compare the relationship of movement between the Moving Average of the price with the price itself. A buy signal is generated/derived when price rises above its MA & a sell trading signal is generated/derived when price falls and drops below its MA.
