MT4 Platform Tutorial
The MT4 Navigator window panel is mainly used to navigate the most widely used areas of the MT4 platform. These levels are:
- Accounts: Demo & Live Accounts
- Indicators
- EAs: A listing of automated bots within this MetaTrader 4 software
- Custom Technical Indicators:
- Scripts: Scripts are used to execute some tasks in the MT4
As a trader once you have selected the Navigator Button the following navigator window will appear on your MT4.
MetaTrader 4 Navigator
The First menu option on the Navigator list is Accounts tab. To view trading accounts tab, you can press expand(+) button (marked as +), and a list of your saved trading accounts will appear. Every time you login with a new account the details will be saved under this "Accounts Tab".
By double-clicking on any account you can activate the log in and sign in to that trading account. You can switch from one account to the other using this trading accounts tab.
The example illustrated below illustrates two trading accounts recorded under this tab, a demo account marked as a green cartoon and a Live trading account marked as a trading cartoon. From this trading accounts tab, a gold trader can switch between any of this two accounts by doubleclicking on any one of them.
Indicators, Expert Advisors, Custom Technical Indicators & Scripts

- EAs: A list of automated robots within this MetaTrader 4 platform
- Custom Technical Indicators:
- Scripts: Scripts are used to execute some tasks in the MT4
The above are illustrated below on the screen-shot, to view more options under each of these, traders click the expand(+) button "+ button key", this will illustrate more options, to hide, just click " - button key". For example the "Expert Advisors" option below has been expanded.
These tutorials will be covered in more details later, but for now as a trader the following explanation about each will suffice.
Technical Indicators: Indicators are trading analysis tools used in trading & placed on XAUUSD Trading chart, these tools are used to generate buy and sell signals.
Expert Advisors: Automated bots that are used to place trades by generating buy and sell signal automatically using programs that are coded using the MQL4 coding language.
Custom Technical Indicators: A custom indicator includes an indicator that you've modified or downloaded from the inter net & then installed it on your MetaTrader 4 software, this indicator will be listed here as a "custom technical indicator"
Scripts: This is a function used to perform a certain task, for example if you open five trades and want to close all of them at once you can attach a "script close" on your chart therefore closing all open trade transactions at once (However, you as a trader need to adjust some parameters on the MetaTrader to allow scripts execution trading, that's a lesson for later.)
Navigator will be one of your mainly used panel when trading, to access it using a short cut, press "Ctrl+N" button on your key board to display or hide it.
