MT4 Platform Lesson

The MT4 Navigator window is mainly used to navigate the most widely used areas of the MT4 software. These levels are:

1. Accounts: Demo and Live Accounts
2. Indicators
3. EAs: A listing of automated bots within this MT4 platform
4. Custom Indicators:
5. Scripts: Scripts are used to execute some tasks in the MT4

As a trader once you have selected the Navigator Button the following navigator window will appear on your MT4.

MT4 Navigator

The First menu option on the Navigator list is Accounts tab. To view accounts tab, you as a trader can press expand(+) button (marked as +), and a list of your saved accounts will appear. Every time you login with a new account the details will be saved under this "Accounts Tab".

By double-clicking on any account you as a trader can activate the log in and sign in to that trading account. You can switch from one account to the other using this accounts tab.

The example illustrated below illustrates two trading accounts recorded under this tab, a demo account labeled and marked as a green cartoon and a Live account labeled & marked as a trading cartoon. From this trading accounts tab, a gold trader can switch between any of these 2 accounts by doubleclicking on any one of them.

Indicators, Expert Advisors, Custom Indicators & Scripts

4. Scripts: Scripts are used to execute some tasks in the MT4

The above are illustrated below on the screen-shot, to get more options under each of these, traders click the expand(+) button "+ button key", this will display more options, to hide, just click " - button key". For exemplification the "Expert Advisors" option below has been expanded.

These guides will be covered and explained in more details later, but for now as a trader the following explanation about each will suffice.

Indicators: Indicators are trading analysis tools used in trading & placed on XAUUSD Trading chart, these tools are used to generate buy and sell signals.

Expert Advisors: Automated bots that are used to place trades by generating buy and sell signal automatically by using programs that are coded using the MQL4 coding language.

Custom Indicators: A custom indicator includes an indicator that you've modified or downloaded from the inter net and then installed it in your MT4 platform, this technical indicator will then be listed here as a "custom technical indicator"

Scripts: This is a specified function used to perform a particular task, for example if you open five trades and want to close all of them at once you as a trader can attach a "script close" in your trading chart therefore closing all open trades at once (However, you as a trader need to adjust some parameters on the MetaTrader to allow scripts execution trading, that's a lesson for later.)

Navigator will be one of your commonly used panel when trading, to access it using a short cut, press "Ctrl+N" button on your key board to display or hide it.
